This week sees the launch of the Major Projects Sustainability Playbook, developed to support project professionals in defining, procuring, designing, constructing and operating sustainable projects.
In April earlier this year we held a seminar, No Planet B, so what can I do? looking at a broad range of challenges and opportunities for major projects to be more sustainable and also to step up to help with the transformation we must go through to meet the grand challenges of our time – climate change, biodiversity loss and resilience.
The premise of the seminar was that there is no lack of goodwill to do the right thing, that we already know much of what needs to be done, and that there’s an ever-increasing amount of legislation and initiatives to drive it. But, the challenge for those involved in major projects was making sense of it all and to turn ideas into action. We wanted to answer: what can I do in my role now? We used the seminar to crowdsource the ‘how’ from across our membership and beyond.
With the help of KPMG, we have converted the risk content generated from the seminar and subsequent study to develop a Major Projects Sustainability Playbook, providing a roadmap of what can be done, when in the project lifecycle, by whom.
We’re delighted to share the Playbook with members and non-members and encourage those involved in major projects to use it, seek answers to the earlier questions, and then share with others, this is what we’ve done!
