Crossrail Management System

Summary

This paper examines Crossrail’s concept of establishing and implementing a management system that ensured that all key processes were mapped, describing the approach taken and setting out how the Management System was developed. It discusses the challenges encountered throughout the lifecycle of the Programme and how best practice and lessons learned from previous projects of similar scale were used in its development.

It identifies the processes and procedures that were adopted for the delivery of the Crossrail Programme. In doing so it provided assurance to Sponsors and Infrastructure Managers (future operators of the railway) that the programme was being delivered coherently and correctly. This paper will be of interest to other major projects and any project professionals looking to set up an organisation wide management system.
