Waste is now big business and is set to grow with increasing constraints and challenges in the next few years. Last year saw western Europe’s largest waste contract let for Greater Manchester – after 2 years of negotiation. It is worth £3.8bn and was supported by the Treasury’s Infrastructure Finance Unit. Further large projects are being planned.
We shall hear about the Greater Manchester project from all key players – client, designer, contractor and operator- in order better understand the interfaces and lessons. The waste-to-energy plant on the Thames provides another operator insight so that we can see how the long term requirements of operation can influence the earlier stages of the project. As the UK has lagged behind mainland Europe, we shall hear from a leading expert about the emerging technologies so we can better apply them to the next round of contracts.
Member’s organisations will want to learn from current best practice and be positioned to contribute to these demanding solutions and growing market both in the UK and overseas.
