Success is “soft” people skills

Summary

Recurring themes of concern to MPA members which are often quoted as contributors to problems for major projects relate to ‘people’ issues rather than technical and process mechanisms. It has often been said that the successful outcome of a project is as much to do with leadership, culture and behaviour as it is to do with project management technique, process and technology. This seminar concentrates on this critically important topic.

A special survey is being conducted within the membership to identify the skills and attributes of ‘elite’ senior professionals. Results of this research will be presented to enable delegates to utilise the outcomes in their own organisations.

A new approach to organisational leadership together with lessons in turning around failing companies and change management within the public sector will also be discussed.

With more than the usual time given to discussion and debate in groups, delegates should benefit from the opportunity to learn how to adapt lessons and improve people issues in major projects. Two current problems and approaches will be aired, seeking views and ideas from the delegates to live issues.

During the course of the event members should be able to answer questions such as: Is there a way of developing vital people attributes so that project out turns can be more predictable and more reliable? How can the talents and the wisdom of the whole team be orchestrated to produce outstanding results which inspire others?

Attendance at this seminar should provide new insights to help the selection and personal development of future leaders and contributors of major programmes.
