The project that everybody knows as ‘London 2012’ is really the first spectacular stage of a programme that extends several decades into the future. With just 4 years to go before the games themselves take place, the project has entered its busiest, most visual phase. Construction activities are well underway and some have even commenced ahead of programme.
The seminar will receive an up to date briefing form John Armitt, Chairman of the Olympic Delivery Authority, and then we will take a look over the horizon to discuss the immediate challenges that lay ahead in providing a lasting legacy from the games.
We expect to hear first hand on the problems and lessons from Sydney 2000, consider the wider social aspects for the community and learn what recent changes have been made in areas such as transport, before closing with the person responsible within the London Development Agency for the post 2013 plans.
Whilst inevitably this seminar will concentrate on London, it is anticipated that the subject will be of interest across all sectors and throughout the UK where regeneration and investment in the public realm is critical to many locations outside the capital.
We hope to balance contributions from those directly engaged and charged with legacy development, with representation from leading commercial interests and investors. MPA members are encouraged therefore, not only to attend, but to contribute on the day with their own thoughts and lessons, so that the UK does indeed achieve its stated goal of measuring success from London 2012 by the legacy its leaves for future generations.
