Summary

The Gemini Papers set the Centre for Digital Built Britain’s vision for the future, showcasing the vital role that connected digital twins play in improving social, economic, and environmental outcomes, to create a better quality of life for all.

Driven by the Gemini Principles of purpose, trust and function, the papers are a series of three documents addressing the ‘What’ ‘Why’ and ‘How’ of connected digital twins.

Centre for Digital Built Britain has worked closely with industry, academia, and government to explore and create solutions for the challenges facing the built environment.

The Gemini Papers present their learning from the past five years, capturing the consensus viewpoint of the connected digital twin community – serving as a blueprint for future leaders.

The pathway towards an information management framework

Summary

The value of information which is managed effectively and shared securely so that the people can make the best decisions is becoming increasingly well understood. The Gemini Principles set out the guiding values for the creation of a (national) system for connecting digital assets but are designed to enable competition on delivery, encouraging innovation and development over time. That system, the Information Management Framework, and a proposed approach to its creation is discussed in this paper which has been created by a group of information management experts working with the National Digital Twin programme.

Water Supply and Demand Management

Summary

Water companies’ long-term progress on tackling leakage and reducing water consumption has stalled over the past five years, and companies are only now starting to develop bulk water transfer solutions at the scale required. The government has been grappling with these issues for more than a decade but rapid progress is now vital for Defra to deliver on its objective of a resilient water supply. Defra has taken positive steps to give a more strategic focus to water resource planning. But it must make sure that its new national framework and Ofwat’s new funding for companies to develop strategic solutions produce the collaboration and prompt action from water companies that is now needed. Defra will not be able to achieve value for money unless it provides stronger leadership across government, and a much clearer sense of direction to water companies, the water regulators and water consumers.

Stakeholder Engagement and Consultation in a Digital World

Summary

Digital technology has transformed the way we communicate. It provides an opportunity to target activity, raise awareness among a greater audience and encourage people towards a specific call to action.

In response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Cooper Consultancy have been working with a range of clients, businesses and stakeholders to help them adapt to this consistently evolving situation. These are unprecedented times, but we could also see this period of social distancing as a catalyst for a step-change in how we engage and consult.

To help clients understand the current challenges, but also the opportunities that may exist, they’ve developed a white paper on stakeholder engagement and consultation in a digital world.

The guide provides an overview of how to maintain stakeholder engagement and deliver robust and compliant consultation in light of coronavirus and the longer term learnings that could come from it.

A digital first approach allows technology and innovation to enhance the way we communicate about major infrastructure, development and construction projects, and, ultimately, to bring schemes to life in brand new ways for even more people.
