HS2 kicks off its learning legacy

HS2 has appointed EY to develop its corporate Knowledge Management strategy including defining its learning legacy programme.  As part of the wider knowledge sharing strategy the learning legacy programme seeks to capture knowledge from Phase 1 for sharing with Phase 2 and, where applicable, the wider industry.

HS2 is the first project planning to set up a learning legacy at this project initiation and development stage.  Crossrail 2 will surely have a lot to benefit from this open sharing approach.

HS2 takes the tally of major projects’ learning legacies to three.  Will Tideway follow in their footsteps soon?

Crossrail releases new Learning Legacy content

Over 140 new knowledge sharing items have been added to the Crossrail Learning Legacy in September 2016.

Crossrail’s Learning Legacy initiative was launched in February 2016 to share good practice, lessons learned and innovation from its construction programme and will continue to share its knowledge in 6 monthly tranches until its construction completion in 2018.

February’s content focused on learning from their project and programme management theme and sharing of processes, procedure and good practice documents, and was supported by a number of successful webinars hosted by the Association for Project Management.  This new tranche features Health & Safety, Environment and Talent & Resources and launches a programme of webinars by CIRIA, British Safety Council and CIPD.

For more details on the programme of webinars visit the Events page of the Crossrail website.

Tideway Launches Innovation Programme

Tideway launched its Innovations programme on 28th September and is the first major project to launch using the industry-wide I3P innovations platform.

The I3P platform builds on the success of Innovate 18, Crossrail’s innovation programme which was donated by Crossrail as a legacy for use by the wider industry.  Crossrail’s Innovate 18 programme led to over 400 innovations over a 3 year period and resulted in £3.5m financial benefits as well as number of intangible benefits, such as Health and Safety improvements, and additional behavioural benefits associated with an innovative culture, such as increased collaboration and team building.

I3P’s vision is to establish itself a primary driver for innovation in the UK infrastructure industry and to provide a mechanism for strategically directing innovation to address the major challenges facing the infrastructure industry. By establishing a truly collaborative culture of innovation across both infrastructure clients and their supply chains, I3P will create a ‘safe space’ to identify areas for potential industry improvement, share ideas, and enable members to collaborate in projects that drive increased value across the infrastructure industry.

Tideway is leading the way with its launch of their I3P innovation site but I3P’s doors will open more widely on 27th October when other contractors and major projects can join the innovations programme.
