The Association seeks a new Chair

Sir Tim Laurence standing down

After almost a decade (in accordance with our Articles of Association) Sir Tim Laurence will be standing down from his role of Chair of the Major Project Association at the end of 2022.  Therefore the Association is seeking a new Chair to lead the Board and provide direction to the team.

The Candidate

What sort of person are we seeking? Someone who is willing to commit some of their time, energy and experience to oversee the Association as it helps our members and the wider sector tackle national challenges such as economic recovery, levelling up and climate change through major projects. He or she will chair a talented and lively Board who are diverse in background, in experience, in ideas and in the views they express. The Board’s aim is to give a strategic lead to the organisation as a whole.

The time commitment is very flexible, but typically works out at between 2 and 4 days a month. The Board meets formally four times a year. The Chair’s engagement with seminars, discussions, training events and dinners is both encouraged and enormously enjoyable. It often fits well around other professional commitments.

Remuneration is a nominal £10,000 per annum, but the non-financial rewards are great – in the satisfaction of supporting Association members and the sector more broadly, and in networking with others who have a shared passion for improving major project outcomes.

The Selection Process

Prospective candidates are encouraged to speak to our Executive Director, Andy Murray, if they wish to know more about the Association, current challenges/opportunities and our 2025 strategic plan.

Prospective candidates then simply need to provide a short bio or CV and a covering letter explaining why you are interested in the role and why you feel you are a good fit.  This should be sent to our Company Secretary, Ruth Francis ruth.francis@majorprojects.org by 17th June 2022.  Meetings with shortlisted candidates will take place through July to September ahead of a Board decision in October and ratification by our members at our AGM in November.
