This month we welcome new member Sizewell C to the Major Projects Association community. We asked Ollie Parsons, Public Affairs Manager at Sizewell C, to tell us more about the project and why they have joined.
Sizewell C – who we are?
Sizewell C will deliver a major energy project – building a new nuclear power station in Suffolk – that will have a central role in the UK’s future energy mix. It will provide decades of clean, reliable electricity for around 6 million homes. As the developer and future operator of Sizewell C, we are playing a key role in one of the largest infrastructure projects in the UK.
Sizewell C is backed by both public and private investment, and delivered in partnership with a world-class supply chain. Construction is already underway, enabled by significant Government investment, and a final investment decision is expected in line with the Government’s Spending Review.
The project is a replication of Hinkley Point C’s design, meaning it draws upon extensive lessons from Hinkley, as well as incorporating first-class construction methodology, project controls, stakeholder engagement, and environmental management.
Sizewell C is not only contributing to the UK’s energy security, but also driving economic development through job creation, skills investment, and regional regeneration. Our team is composed of experts across engineering, planning, community engagement, sustainability, and programme delivery.
We are collaborating with government, regulators, local authorities, academic institutions and industry bodies to ensure the successful delivery of what is a complex, long-term energy infrastructure asset.
What we’re hoping to gain from MPA membership
Sizewell C is keen to join the Major Projects Association to share and deepen our team’s understanding of best practice in major project delivery, and to contribute our insights from experience delivering uniquely complex nuclear infrastructure. Membership would provide our team with opportunities to engage with peers across sectors – transport, defence, digital, health, and beyond – learning from their approaches to delivery, innovation, risk and resilience.
We are keen to continually strengthen Sizewell C’s project capabilities, benchmark our approach to assurance and governance, and improve delivery performance. We are especially interested in engaging on themes such as systems integration, supply chain resilience, and programme leadership.
We also bring relevant experience that can benefit other members, particularly in public-private partnership models, complex stakeholder management, and energy transition challenges. By joining the MPA, we aim to both learn and contribute – building cross-sector understanding that supports better outcomes for all major projects in the UK.
We look forward to Sizewell C’s involvement and engagement with the Association. We were delighted to welcome them to the recent Managing Change event — their first since becoming members.
