It was with great sadness that we learned last week of the passing of our great friend Mike Wallace. Mike was one of the most recognisable members of the Major Projects Association. Over the last decade, his lilting Scottish voice and be-kilted legs were a regular feature at our Annual Dinners. He was also a great friend and the ultimate supporter of our work, attending over 60 formal events and supporting so many other activities.
Our first encounter with Mike was in Brazil back in 2012. He was working there for The Nichols Group and the Association hosted several events to promote the Association to organisations working on the Rio Games. Mike joined us for a lunch event in Rio de Janeiro and following his return to the UK he joined PA Consulting and soon after became their Main Representative, a role which he maintained until his recent decline in health prevented it. In his role of Main Rep he attended every AGM and Annual dinner between 2013 and 2019 and could always be counted upon to propose or second one of the voting items.
Mike didn’t just attend. He took part. He contributed his opinion. He shared his insights and he encouraged others to do the same.
Mike’s enthusiasm for the Association helped to create the positive community that we are today. We will miss him greatly – none more so that at our AGM and Annual Dinner on 29th November when we will raise a glass in his honour.
Before he passed away Mike raised money for The Brain Tumour Charity. His family have asked that his friends might remember him with a donation to the Charity in his name. You can donate via this link.
