Mentoring

Mentoring can be a very powerful tool in career development for anyone working in major projects. The process requires a well-chosen mentor; this is a relationship that works both ways and both mentor and mentee should benefit from the interaction.

WE OFFER TWO MENTORING SCHEMES

Which scheme is right for you?

SCHEME ONE

Senior-level decisions makers

The first is aimed at senior-level decisions makers (for example: project sponsors, senior responsible officers, project or programme directors) in member bodies, facing challenges in particularly large, complex or innovative projects. At this stage of the scheme we cannot facilitate mentoring for more junior staff.

Contacts will be handled in confidence through the Association’s Executive Staff. The Association’s role is to make an introduction between the decision maker expressing the need of advice and the Executive team’s view of fit from those we know are prepared to help.

GET IN TOUCH

If you are seeking a senior mentor, please email Andy Murray via mpa@majorprojects.org.

SCHEME TWO · COHORT BASED

Peer Mentoring

Our second scheme is a Peer Mentoring Programme, which we offer on a cohort basis.

Members at any career stage can apply to join the programme and are matched with someone at a similar level of experience from a different part of the supply chain or a different type of project. The aim is to provide a fresh perspective on the challenges you may be facing.

APPLICATIONS

Applications for the 2026 Peer Mentoring Programme are now closed. Applications for the 2027 cohort will open in February 2027.

How and when applications are judged

Applications are made through a form in your personal profile on the website.

1
Apply from your profile

You will be asked to answer a few questions to help us identify a suitable match.

2
Main Rep approval

All applications are shared with your Main Rep for approval.

3
Places allocated

Each member organisation is initially allocated one place, although we are happy to receive multiple applications. Additional places will be offered where capacity allows.
