40 years in 40 kilometres

When we sat down and planned what activities the members of the Association team might undertake to mark our 40th Anniversary, a sponsored walk felt like an obvious choice. We have a tradition of going out for a lunchtime walk whenever everyone (all six of us) are in the Eynsham Office and the immediate link between 40 years and 40 kilometres (we originally discussed 40 miles but felt that might be a little too challenging) made this an appealing option.

We needed to find a charity to which any money raised from the walk could be donated. Sadly, this choice was almost as easy and quick to make as the original decision to walk. Mike Wallace of PA Consulting died of a brain tumour in 2021. Mike was one of the most recognisable members of the Association – over the last decade his lilting Scottish voice and be-kilted knees were a regular feature of our annual dinners.  He was a great friend and supporter of our work, attending over 60 events and supporting many other activities. With Mike in mind we chose The Brain Tumour Charity as the beneficiary for donations.

We discussed a variety of possible routes, before settling on the Thames Path, which is relatively close to the office and to many of the team’s homes and consequently less logistically complex. Our route will start at Tadpole Bridge in Oxfordshire and end at Egrove Park, Kennington where the Association was founded back in 1981.

We’ll be walking the 40 km over two days on the 29th and 30th March; two days during which we can celebrate the Association’s milestone, reinforce the bonds between the members of the team following the long months of lockdown, and remember Mike.

You are welcome to support us: physically, if you fancy joining us for part of the route, we’d love to see you (contact the office for details of where we will be and at what time), or financially, via a donation to the Brain Tumour Charity.
