Rewilding practitioners across Europe have have co-formulated a set of 11 principles that characterise and guide rewilding in a European context.
The 11th principle is that of: Knowledge Exchange – Exchanging knowledge and expertise to continually refine rewilding best practice and achieve the best possible rewilding results and reflects the fact that learning from experience and transmitting that learning to others in the field is baked into the rewilding process.
Whilst major projects all advocate the importance of learning from experience, the number that have formally sought to create a tangible output from the project, a Learning Legacy, remains very few indeed.
So the advent of a new Major Projects Learning Legacy is significant and newsworthy. Our Major Projects Knowledge repository already provides access to the learning legacies from Olympics 2012, Crossrail and Thameslink and from next month, we will be sharing the content of the brand new HS2 Learning Legacy site.
Beyond the simple fact that this is another Learning Legacy site which is open to all, the HS2 LL is noteworthy for two reasons. Firstly, because the team have captured learning from the start of the project process; previous learning legacies only kicked in some time after the start of the project, which meant the earliest lessons were lost. The second is that, for the first time, we will be streaming the content directly into our repository from the HS2 LL site, via an API. The content from the the earlier sites was added manually in tranches. Using an API means that we will automatically capture updates and new material within 24 hours of these happening on the host site.
