The best way to engage and consult stakeholders is to transport them to a new world

Imagine you could pick up your stakeholders, wherever and in whatever time zones they live, and transport them all to a space where they can interact with one another as a whole group, in sub-groups or on a one-to-one basis; moving freely about the space and between groups; interacting and working together on one or multiple questions simultaneously.

Now imagine that this is a psychologically very safe environment, which means they have left all of the prejudices associated with skin colour, age, race, religion, cultural background or work status, behind them; and where the way they work together gives everyone a voice and combines the intellectual, with the vocal and with the kinesthetic (they are doing stuff together as well as talking about stuff); and finally, imagine that this new world has a whole chest of techniques which they can draw on singly or build together into a sequence to help them imagine, plan, design, build, create, agree, record, share, experiment, schedule.

This is the World of QUBE and it is a world that we have been using for over three years in Major Projects Association to explore some of the most challenging and the most human of topics related to project management including:

  • Stakeholder storytelling
  • Decision-making in major projects
  • Agile working
  • Design thinking
  • The language of communication
  • Project success and failure
  • Systems thinking
  • Intelligent disobedience
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Humanly digital
  • Planning in uncertainty
  • Re-imagining procurement
  • The neuroscience of managing change

QUBE could have been specifically designed for our next event (19th August – 17.30-19.00 BST) when we will look at stakeholder consultation – both face-t0-face and virtual – in the context of net zero and the climate emergency.

If you fancy a complete change of scenery, having been chained to your home desk for 18 months or to an office that is bereft of all the human interaction we relied on so much in the past, then I encourage you to join us for QUBE@Work. One word of warning: you may find the New World so engaging that you may not wish to return to the old one.

QUBE@Work is open to both members and non-members of the Major Projects Association. For more information and to register.
