Locking in Lockdown Learning

Summary

In this second webinar in the Major Projects Association Sustainability Ambassador Series, David Symonds, lead for WSP’s Future Ready Programmes shares what the extraordinary national lockdown has taught him about sustainability and asks how we can secure that learning for the future. He explores the role of the CSR professional and the value of the lockdown in focusing all businesses on what really matters – their programmes that are most relevant over all the rest. He also discusses those businesses whose fine words on their website have been shown to be hollow when it comes to their behaviour in response to the lockdown. Finally he covers what we have learned about working from home safely and sustainably for the good of the business and the health of the employee; avoiding the mental health risks of social isolation. This is a very human-centric view of sustainability and one that reminds us of the meaning of the concept: sustainability is about the future of humanity and that starts with the wellbeing of each of us.
